CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — After a long stretch on the road, the Harvard University men’s water polo returned to Blodgett Pool for a key 14-8 victory against No. 19-ranked Brown University.  The win marks the first ranked win for Harvard this season and improves the Crimson’s record in Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) action to 3-1.

After allowing the opening goal against Brown (13-4, 2-2 NWPC), Harvard’s attack found its stride, netting three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 at the end of the opening frame. Senior goalkeeper Oliver Price made several timely stops between the posts to keep the Brown offense at bay.

The Crimson carried its momentum into the second quarter, as Harvard built a 6-3 lead before halftime. Junior Lukas Peabody tallied the first goal in the second, as senior Jack Burghardt answered a Brown goal with his first goal of the afternoon. With under a minute remaining, junior Tyler Hogan recorded Harvard’s final goal of the first half, as Brown pulled within three goals just before the second quarter ended.

Harvard’s offense remained consistent to open the second half, as the Crimson outscored the visitors, 4-2, in the third quarter to take a commanding 11-5 lead. Four different Crimson found the back of the net in the third quarter, as first-year Clay Carrington capped of the quarter with his first goal of the contest.

The fourth quarter saw Harvard continue to find success both in possession and transition, as the Crimson claimed its biggest lead of the day in the final quarter against the Bears with a goal from sophomore Connor Kim. Harvard traded goals with Brown for the rest of the way as the Crimson secured a 14-8 victory.

Eight different Crimson logged goals in the win against Brown, as Peabody led Harvard with three goals.
