BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Goalie Hayden Niederreiter (Sr., Visalia, Calif./Golden West) of Division III No. 4-ranked the Massachusetts Institute of Technology made 19 saves to help the Engineers to a Third Place finish at the inaugural Division III Collegiate Water Polo National Championship sponsored by USA Water Polo. For his performance, Niederreiter claims honors as the December 9 Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Defensive Player of the Week.
A first-time weekly accolade recipient from the league office and a member of the All-Tournament Team, he notched seven saves with three steals in a 12-8 loss to host/Division III No. 1 Whittier College on Saturday, December 7, in the tournament semifinals. He added 12 saves with four steals in 29:53 of playing time during a 20-13 victory over Division III No. 7 Johns Hopkins University in the Third Place game on Sunday, December 8.
