IRVINE, Calif. — The No. 6-ranked University of Michigan water polo team settled for a sixth-place finish at the Barbara Kalbus Invitational after falling to No. 7/host the University of California-Irvine, 10-9, at the Anteater Aquatics Complex.

Maddie O’Reilly was an impact player once again for the Wolverines, nabbing one steal, scoring three goals, and adding three assists in the final game at the Barbara Kalbus Invitational.

The Wolverines converted on five-of-nine power plays (55 percent) and brought the game back to a one-point contest after trailing 7-4 after two quarters.

Kata Utassy finished the day with three points (one goal, two assists), and Kayla Barone and Maddy Steere both contributed two points with a one goal and an assist.

Goalie Alex Brown made eight saves on the day with a 44 percent save percentage in taking the loss.

The game marked the second meeting of the year between the Wolverines and Anteaters following a 7-6 Michigan victory on January 22 at Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz.
