BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Incoming University of Michigan freshman Sophie Jackson (Halifax, England/Crossley Heath Grammar School) was named to the Great Britain U19 Women’s Team roster for the upcoming 2018 LEN European Championship on September 9-16 in Funchal, Portugal.

The British will hope to defeat Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Spain and Turkey.  Competition is broken down into four brackets with Spain, Italy, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria in Group A; Hungary, Great Britain, Israel and Slovakia in Group B; The Netherlands, Portugal, Germany and France in Group C; and Greece, Russia, Turkey and Romania in Group D.

International competition is a common occurrence for Jackson as she previously claimed a gold medal at the 2017 U17 EU Nations Tournament in the Czech Republic and the 2017 U21 EU Nations Tournament in England.  Further, she was named the tournament’s Best Goalkeeper after both EU Nations tournament wins.

Selected as the U19 National Age Group Championships Best Goalkeeper in 2018, British Swimming chose her as the Water Polo Emerging Female Athlete of the Year in 2017 and Swim England tabbed her Water Polo Performance Athlete of the Year in 2017.
