FUKUOKA, Japan — Former Indiana University Hoosier Jessica Gaudreault ’19 stopped 12-of-29 shots she faced as Canada took a 17-10 loss to the Netherlands in the quarterfinals of the 20th World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.
Due to the loss, Canada will face neighbor and reigning Olympic/World Champion the United States in a Fifth/Eighth Place game at 1:00 a.m. Eastern on Wednesday, July 26. The victor of the USA-Canada game tangles in the Fifth Place game at 3:30 a.m. Eastern on Friday, July 28, versus the winner of a donnybrook pitting Hungary against Greece, while the loser will meet the fallen from the Hungary-Greece matchup for Seventh Place on Thursday, July 27, at 10:30 p.m. Eastern.
The Netherlands dominated the first half of the game by outscoring Canada 6-2 and 5-3 in the first and second quarters, respectively, to gain an 11-5 halftime lead. Canada chipped away at its deficit to move within 14-9 by the conclusion of the third quarter, but the Netherlands capped off the contest with a 3-1 run in the fourth quarter in acquiring a 17-10 victory.
Gaudreault stopped eight-of-18 action shots, one-of-six shots from center and three-of-five man-up bids in the game during 32 minutes of action.
Fellow Hoosier Shae (Fournier) La Roche ’14 shot zero-for-one in 22:50 of competition.
