BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Goalkeeper Jessica Gaudreault turned aside eight-of-15 shots she faced and Shae (Fournier) La Roche scored once as the former Indiana University standouts aided Canada in garnering a 12-7 defeat of the People’s Republic of China in Group A competition at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

Canada – which dropped a 12-7 decision to Hungary on Monday, July 29 – never trailed by opening up leads of 4-0 and 5-3 at the conclusion of the first and second quarters prior to expanding the margin to 9-4 and 12-7 by the end of the third and fourth quarters, respectively.

Gaudreault – who stopped seven-of-19 shots (one-for-seven action shots/one-for-three center shots/four-for-seven man-up/zero-for-one penalty shots/one-for-one counter-attack) with a pair of steals while going the 32-minute distance in cage versus Hungary – turned away seven-of-nine action shots/one-of-five man-up/zero-for-one penalty shots with a steal in another complete game facing China.

La Roche – who shot zero-for-two from the field on action shots during 26:45 of action against Hungary – collected a rebound, field blocked a shot and converted on one-of-five shots (one-for-three action shots/zero-for-two man-up) by scoring with 2:34 left in the first quarter to stake Canada to a 3-0 lead.

Gaudreault, La Roche and Team Canada will next be in action on Friday, August 2, against former University of Michigan athlete Abby Andrews and the Australia Stingers.
