BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Indiana University alumnae Jessica Gaudreault and Shae (Fournier) La Roche could not lift Canada past Hungary as the Canadians opened play in Group A at the 2024 Olympics in Paris with a 12-7 loss.
Canada, which was outscored 4-1 by the Hungarians in the first quarter, trailed 7-4 at halftime and 8-5 at the conclusion of the third quarter on the way to a five-goal defeat.
La Roche shot zero-for-two from the field on action shots during 26:45 of action, while Gaudreault stopped seven-of-19 shots (one-for-seven action shots/one-for-three center shots/four-for-seven man-up/zero-for-one penalty shots/one-for-one counter-attack) with a pair of steals while going the 32-minute distance in cage.
Canada will aim to claim its first victory of the 2024 Olympics on Wednesday, July 31, versus China prior to taking on Australia (Friday, August 2) and the Netherlands (Sunday, August 4) to conclude Group A competition
