NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. The Connecticut College women’s water polo team dropped a matchup by a 23-8 final score to Division I Iona University at the Hynes Center Pool.

The hosts outscored the visitors 14-3 after two periods thanks to three goals from Gaels’ first year Sadie Sallas. Iona hopped out to a 6-0 advantage before Brooke Brandenberger (Sacramento, Calif.) snapped the run by scoring the first goal of the game for the Camels. Conn struggled to keep up with the offensive pace set by the Gaels, as the hosts shot almost 70 percent on attempts.

In the third quarter, Iona outscored Conn 5-1, but the Camels finished strong in the final stanza, putting up four goals against the stout Gaels’ defense.

Brandenberger led the Camels with three scores, while Ainsley Cornwall (San Mateo, Calif.) and Maria Sell (San Mateo, Calif.) also added two tallies each. Goaltender Yiota Tsiali (Varvara, Greece) registered eight saves in goal for the visitors.
