BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Goalie John Wilson (Sr., Hillsborough, Calif./Menlo) of Johns Hopkins University made 39 saves with four steals and three assists in leading the Division III No. 2-ranked Blue Jays to a 4-0 weekend at the United State Naval Academy’s Navy Open to earn honors as the September 4 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Defensive Player of the Week.

He made five saves and did not allow a goal in one half of action against Washington & Jefferson College in a season-opening 13-1 victory on Saturday, September 2. He then made 12 saves and added an assist in a 12-11 win over Gannon University.

On Sunday, September 3, Wilson made nine saves and had a steal in a 13-7 win over Division III No. 10 California Lutheran University. He followed that with 13 saves, three steals and one assist in the 16-5 win over La Salle University.

A four-time honor recipient after previously claiming the October 25, 2015 Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week award from the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) prior to earning co-Defensive and Defensive Player of the Week laurels on September 26 and November 7, respectively, during the 2016 season.

Wilson ranks 16th in program history in career steals (85) and third in saves (568).
