PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — La Salle University men’s water polo took another step towards the 2019 season with the release of its upcoming schedule. The program’s fourth campaign, and head coach Tom Hyham‘s second at the helm, is set to begin the first weekend of September.
The Explorers start their slate of games in Annapolis, Md.at the United States Naval Academy’s Navy Open against Princeton University and Austin College on September 7, followed by Fordham University and the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA) on September 8. The Bruins, who finished 2018 ranked third in the nation, will be the first Top Ten opponent in the history of the Explorers’ water polo program.
A week later, the Blue & Gold take on the Mercyhurst University Invitational in Erie, Pa., on the weekend of September 14-15 before returning home to Kirk Pool on September 20 against Navy. That same weekend (September 21-22) La Salle will compete in the Bison Invitational at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa; the team faces Mercyhurst and Washington & Jefferson College on September 21 prior to meeting Fordham and Bucknell on September 22.
The Explorers close out September with a trip to Wagner on the 28th, followed by a pair of home matches against George Washington and Johns Hopkins a day later.
La Salle spends the entirety of October on the road, beginning with a weekend in the Maryland area. The team travels to George Washington University in Washington, D.C., on October 11 before commuting to Navy in Annapolis, Md., and Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md. on October 12. The following weekend, the Explorers partake in the Harvard University Invitational with matches against St. Francis College Brooklyn and Brown University on October 19 before clashing with Pomona-Pitzer Colleges and the host Crimson on October 20.
The final home game of 2019 takes place on November 1 against Wagner College. After that, the Blue & Gold round out the regular season with away matches at Bucknell (November 2) and Fordham (November 16) prior to the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Championship on November 22-24 at Bucknell.
