ANNAPOLIS, MD. — Long Island University improved to 4-2 on the season as the Sharks dropped a 14-13 game to George Washington University at Lejeune Hall and chomped on Division III No. 5-ranked Chapman University, 19-12, at Scott Natatorium to commence the team’s competition at the United States Naval Academy’s 2026 Navy Open.
Against Chapman in an evening contest at Scott Natatorium, the Sharks held a 9-5 lead through the first 16 minutes of action thanks to a first-half hat trick by junior Thomaz Figueiredo. LIU kept its foot on the gas in the second half to pen the Panthers by seven goals.
Figueiredo, sophomore Lucas Ramirez and sophomore Dylan Rothenberg all posted three goals in the win, while freshman Sebastiano Figari, junior Jack French, freshman Oliver Knoflick and sophomore Francisco de Zengotita Rodriguez each scored a pair of goals. Additionally, sophomore Mark Malamud and freshman Tom Sloman chipped in solo strikes.
In its game against George Washington at Lejeune Hall, LIU found itself in a six-all tie with the Revolutionaries at halftime, aided by a pair of goals from de Zengotita Rodriguez. While the two squads traded goals throughout the second half, Long Island was unable to recapture the lead to fall 14-13.
Rothenberg led the Sharks with a hat-trick, while de Zengotita Rodriguez, junior Csanad Varga, French and Figari each scored twice. Ramirez and Malamud each scored one goal against George Washington.
