KENOSHA, Wis. — The Macalester College water polo team played two Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III-West Region matches as the Scots fell to Division III No. 5 Austin College, 8-4, and topped host Carthage College, 6-4, at Koenitzer Aquatic Center. The Scots are now 5-9 overall and 3-3 in the CWPA.

In the day’s first game against Austin, Macalester trailed 4-0 before senior Eleanor Michaud (Long Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) scored late in the second quarter. After Austin tallied a goal just before halftime, Michaud and first year Jess Palmer-Sammons (Half Moon Bay, Calif./Half Moon Bay) scored back-to-back goals to open the third quarter. The Kangaroos answered with three consecutive goals to take a commanding 8-3 advantage. With two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Michaud scored her third goal of the game to close out the scoring. First year goalkeeper Jayden Kratt (Palo Alto, Calif./Henry M. Gunn) made 10 saves for the Scots.

Against Carthage, sophomore Brooke Lane (Meriden, Conn./Hopkins School) opened the scoring, as Macalester fell behind, 2-1 after one quarter. In the second quarter, Michaud scored twice to give the Scots a 3-2 lead. The Firebirds were able to tie the score before the end of the quarter, making the halftime score 3-3. The teams exchanged goals in the third quarter, with first year Lorelei Bell (Encinitas, Calif./San Dieguito Academy) scoring for Macalester. Less than a minute into the fourth quarter, first year Alana Nadolski (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood) found the net to put the Scots on top, then sophomore Sian Lewandowski (North Haven, Conn./Williston Northampton) scored with 20 seconds left to clinch the win. Junior goalkeeper Laurel O’Hare (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) registered 10 saves in goal for Macalester.
