BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Goalie Courtney Overland (Sr., Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani) of Division III No. 8-ranked Macalester College totaled 56 saves during a 4-0 Western Region league weekend at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, to earn notice as the March 4 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III co-Defensive Player of the Week.

She started the weekend by racking up 17 and 13 saves, respectively, in defeats of Austin College and Division III No. 19 Monmouth College on Saturday, March 2.  Against Monmouth, she added a goal as the Scots edged out the Fighting Scots for the early lead in the Western Region standings.

On Sunday, March 3, she made 15 saves, including a pair of penalty shots, in a 15-4 defeat of the host Wittenberg Tigers prior to turning aside 11 shots in an 11-2 victory over Carthage College.

Overland shares the Defensive Player of the Week award with Austin goalie Valery Piachonkina (Fr., Castro Valley, Calif./Mission San Jose) who made 47 saves during a 2-2 weekend during the opening collegiate weekend for the first-year varsity ‘Roos.
