BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Goalie Courtney Overland (Jr., Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani) of Division III No. 9-ranked Macalester College posted 39 saves in five games against nationally-ranked West Coast competition to earn the March 19 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Defensive Player of the Week award.
She made eight saves versus Division III No. 6 University of La Verne (14-9 L) and nine more against Division III No. 5 Chapman University (7-5 L) before stopping two shots in a 6-4 victory over Division III No. 2 California Lutheran University. In addition, she notched a week high 12 saves against Division III No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (12-7 L) to go along with eight stops facing Division III No. 7 University of Redlands (13-8 L).
This marks her third Defensive Player of the Week nod in 2018 as she previously took the February 26 and March 12 awards. A five-time honor recipient from the league office, she earned March 6 and April 10 Division III Defensive Player of the Week laurels in 2017.
