ST. PAUL, Minn. — Macalester College water polo student-athlete Eleanor Michaud (Long Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) was named to the Division III Academic All-America Women’s At-Large second team by the College Sports Communicators (CSC). This is Michaud’s first Academic All-American honor after earning Academic All-District accolades the past two seasons.
A biology major, Michaud graduated from Macalester last month with a 3.99 grade point average. She received the HPAC Award and the O.T. and Kathryn Walter Awards from the Macalester biology department. Along with Academic All-District honors, Michaud earned the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-Acadmic award three times. She received the Dorothy Michel Award each of the past two years at Macalester’s year-end awards celebration.
Michaud has made a significant impact on the Macalester water polo program during her four seasons. Earlier this month, she received All-America honorable mention from the ACWPC, the third time she has earned All-America status in her career. This year she led the Scots with 41 goals and 10 assists for 51 points to go with a team-best 46 steals. At the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Tournament held at Macalester, Michaud tallied nine goals to help Macalester take third while earning her a spot on the All-Tournament team.
A two-time All-CWPA honoree, she led the Scots with 73 steals to go with 30 goals and 17 assists as a junior. In 2021, Michaud became the first Macalester water polo player to be named a first team All-America selection. She finished her career with 88 goals, 53 assists, 141 points and 158 steals in 49 career games.
Michaud joins Lucille Moran ’19 and Kate Larson ’05 as Macalester water polo student-athletes who have earned Academic All-America recognition.
To be eligible for Academic All-District and All-America laurels, student-athletes must have attained a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.50, be a sophomore or higher academically and compete as a starter or key reserve on their respective team.
Michaud is one of four women’s water polo players to earn Academic All-America honors in 2023 as she joins Stanford University’s Aria Fischer (Division I First Team), California State University-East Bay’s Daniela Passoni (Division II Second Team) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges’ Cooper McKenna (Division III First Team).
