LEWISBURG, Pa. — Mercyhurst University took losses to Saint Francis University, 13-8, La Salle University, 14-10, Bucknell University, 13-4, and Mount St. Mary’s University, 13-7, at the 2025 Bucknell Invitational hosted by the Bison at Kinney Natatorium.

The Lakers kicked off the weekend against Saint Francis on Saturday, February 8, in Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) competition. Both teams got off to a quick start as they combined for nine goals in the first quarter of play. The Red Flash went up 2-0 before Freya Green and Allie Dombkowski knotted things up. The Red Flash quickly retook the lead before Grace Tirak tied it back up. Dombkowski netted the final goal for the Lakers in the first eight minutes of action, but Megan Marlin scored a pair to retake the lead for good. Eva Henneman scored the lone goal of the second quarter for the Lakers. The final goals of the day for Mercyhurst came from Dombkowski and Krista Domaracki in the 13-8 loss.

Against La Salle, the first quarter was also fast paced. La Salle scored first before Dombkowski tied it up. Bri Allstun and Tirak also recorded goals to tie the game at three before La Salle broke the tie to make it 4-3. They added to that lead by scoring three straight to open the second quarter before Allstun stopped the bleeding. The Lakers grabbed a pair of goals in the third with Allstun and Grace Brzyski scoring them. Two more goals from Allstun, two goals from Victoria Mastrangelo and Dombkowski helped to make the score a 14-10 final.

The Lakers opened day two competition on Sunday, February 9, against Bucknell in another CWPA contest. The Bison scored the first seven goals of the game before Dombkowski put away a shot with four minutes to go in the second quarter. Brean Jordan, Marley Hanlon and Molly Langridge grabbed the other three goals for Mercyhurst in the 13-4 loss.

In the Lakers final game against Mount St. Mary’s, the Mountaineers started things off with a 3-0 lead before Hanlon got Mercyhurst on the board. The Lakers did not net another point until there were two minutes left in the half as Allstun made the score 8-2. Mount St. Mary’s opened the second half with another 3-0 run before Hanlon and Allstun scored back-to-back. Jordan and Allstun tacked on two more goals before the end of the third. Jordan also scored the Lakers final goal of the 13-7 loss.
