ERIE, Pa. —  Mercyhurst University went 3-1 during the program’s first weekend at home in the Flagship City competing in varsity competition during the 2024 season as the Division I Lakers powered past Penn State Behrend, 19-12, Wheaton College, 27-9, and Washington & Jefferson College, 12-7, to follow a 16-15 loss to Connecticut College at the Hallman Aquatic Center.

Following a 16-15 setback against Connecticut on Friday, September 20, the Lakers dominated the Lions of Penn State Behrend for an eight-score victory on Saturday, September 21.  Owen Hardner and Petar Vujovic each scored four goals in the win against the Lakers crosstown foe. Keller Sens also put four balls in the back of the net as the Lakers overwhelmed the Lions after honoring Mercyhurst’s three seniors, JP Kirouac, Eric Fuhrman and Tony Golin in a pre-game ceremony.

The Lakers continued to roll over their opponents during the remainder of the weekend by topping Wheaton and Washington & Jefferson on Sunday, September 22.

Against Wheaton, the Lakers had six players record hat-tricks in the game, including Asher Jones, Sens and Hardner.

The Lakers closed the weekend by swamping Washington & Jefferson. Vujovic (six) and Nate Cheney (three) combined for nine of Mercyhurst’s tallies in the contest.
