WASHINGTON, Pa. -– The Mercyhurst University men’s water polo team downed host Washington and Jefferson College, 22-9, to close out a Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC)-West Region weekend at W&J’s Henry Natatorium.

Mercyhurst took an early 3-1 led in the first quarter. The Lakers extended the lead to 9-5 through the first half before taking a 19-7 lead into the last quarter. During the fourth Mercyhurst scored three more while W&J had two goals.

Daniel Alvarez led the way for Mercyhurst with six goals and five assists. Paul Goddard recorded two goals and six assist and Ryan Witoslawski had three goals and one assist. Alex Cappuccio slipped in three goals, Jonathan Merkley tallied two goals and one assist, Joel Parnell scored two goals, Michael Gutman notched one goal and one assist and goalie Nash Greeven dished out two assists.

Single points were provided by Mathieu Davis, Derek Kagen, Reed Bearden and Teagan Thomas.

In net, Greeven made 15 saves and had six steals.

For W&J, Will Kitsch, Keenan McLaughlin, Anthony Ames and Dylan Gwinn had two points each while single points were credited to Robert Niino, Cam Spicer, Ryan Bannon, Andrew Edwards and Alex Lee.

In net, Nick Spehar made four saves.
