ERIE, Pa. — Mercyhurst University managed Washington & Jefferson College, 11-6, and host Penn State Behrend, 13-8, during a 2-0 weekend on the road.

Against W&J, Mercyhurst was tied with the Presidents at three-all by the conclusion of the first quarter.  Ben Gavran scored back-to-back goals in order to give the Lakers a 3-2 lead before Washington & Jefferson tied the score.

Each team only mustered one goal in the second quarter to enter halftime deadlocked at four-all.

In the second half, the Lakers scored seven unanswered goals with Asher Jones accounting for a pair.

Mercyhurst then played spoiler on Penn State Behrend’s Senior Day as Tony Golin and Alex Gyde split time in net and accounted for 20 saves. Golin had eight saves in the matchup, while Gyde tallied 12.

The Lakers jumped out to a 4-1 lead and never looked back to hold 6-2 and 10-8 margins at the conclusion of the second and third quarters, respectively.

Gavran scored a team high five goals and Owen Hardner scored three as the Lakers dominated in their final game in Erie in 2024.  Jones also finished with three markers to go along with solo tallies from Caden Stover and Keller Sens.
