BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Mert Ali Yener (Fr., Istanbul, Turkey, Sainkt Georg Austrian School) scored 10 goals to lead Michigan State University to the 2023 Big Ten Division Championship and garner individual honors as the October 30 Big Ten Division Player of the Week.
Competing at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., Yener opened the weekend for the No. 2 seed Spartans by scoring four times in a 15-3 defeat of the University of Iowa on Saturday, October 28.
The captain of the Galatasaray U19 and Turkish National U17 teams prior to his arrival in East Lansing, Mich., he posted a hat-trick with three goals in a 12-10 semifinal defeat of The Ohio State University to close out the first day of competition prior to racking up another hat-trick in an 8-6 defeat of No. 1 seed the University of Michigan on Sunday, October 29, to power the Spartans to the division crown and a berth in the 2023 Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship field.
