PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The No. 3-ranked Fordham University water polo team completed a perfect weekend at the Bruno Classic hosted by Brown University and Harvard University as the Rams gave the horns to No. 9 University of the Pacific, 18-14, prior to bucking Long Island University, 25-5.
In Fordham’s opening game of the day, the Rams pushed ahead 3-2 in the first quarter and scored the first three goals of the second quarter to build up a 6-2 lead versus Pacific.
The Tigers closed to within a pair at 8-6, but a goal by Barnabas Eppel with 0.1 seconds left in the quarter left Fordham ahead 9-6 entering halftime.
That goal was the first of five consecutive markers as the Rams scored the opening four goals of the third quarter for a 13-6 lead.
Pacific rallied back to move within three but could push no closer as the Fordham claimed a four-goal win.
Andras Toth netted a game-high five goals for Fordham, while Luca Silvestri notched three goals and five assists.
Eppel also had a hat trick in the game with Luca Provenziani adding four goals along with pairs of assists and steals.
Matthew Bonello DuPuis played the majority of the game in goal, posting nine saves.
Clashing with fellow New York City institution Long Island, the Rams seven times in the first and second quarters, while netting six in the third, and five in the fourth to reel in the Sharks.
The Rams’ defense was on lockdown as the squad allowed only one goal in the second half.
West Gartland, Toth, Soren Jessen, Alessandro Salipante and Diego Tresa all had hat tricks for the Rams.
Kristof Magony played the first three quarters in net, while Panayiotis Giannas finished the final quarter.
