BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Commissioner Dan Sharadin announced the acceptance of Mount St. Mary’s University has a member of the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference for men’s competition effective for the Fall 2020 season.
Located in Emmittsburg, Md., the Mount will compete in the MAWPC-West Region as Mount St. Mary’s joins Connecticut College (New London, Conn.), Gannon University (Erie, Pa.), McKendree University (Lebanon, Ill.), Mercyhurst University (Erie, Pa.), Monmouth College (Monmouth, Ill.), Salem University (Salem, W.Va.) and Washington & Jefferson College (Washington, Pa.) as the grouping encompasses five states (Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia) and a width of 1,097 miles.
Due to the edition of Mount St. Mary’s, the MAWPC-West Region Championship historically hosted at the Hallman Aquatics Center in Erie, Pa., expands to an eight-team field. The MAWPC-West Champion qualifies for the MAWPC Championship against the seven MAWPC-East teams of Bucknell University (Lewisburg, Pa.), Fordham University (Bronx, N.Y.), George Washington University (Washington, D.C.), Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, Md), La Salle University (Philadelphia, Pa.), the United States Naval Academy (Annapolis, Md.) and Wagner College (Staten Island, N.Y.).
A finalized regular season schedule of games for the MAWPC-West is anticipated to be released later this month.
