VILLANOVA, Pa. — Mount St. Mary’s ended up on the wrong side of two contests during the second day of a weekend trip to Villanova University. The Mount fell to the Virginia Military Institute, 20-4, and suffered a 5-0 forfeit loss to the host Wildcats after trailing 21-4.
Goalkeeper Rebekka Williams managed a busy pair of games in goal, finishing the day with 23 saves – 12 against VMI and 11 versus Villanova. The net minder registered 43 saves over the weekend.
Ana Luisa Cotta posted half of the team’s goals, posting two each game. Riley Thompson accounted for three goals, and Emily Van Kerckhove added a goal against VMI.
The Mount got off to rough starts in both games as their opponents shut them out. Trailing 12-2 in the opener and 10-1 in the nightcap, the competition pulled away further in the third quarter, shutting out the Mountaineers again.
The game with Villanova went to the fourth quarter but ended prematurely when the Mount had two players exit with three drawn exclusions. With too few athletes left to compete, the game was awarded to the Wildcats by a 5-0 forfeit final score.
Per statistical rules, all stats accrued by the players count. However, the final score is recorded as a 5-0 forfeit.
