EMMITSBURG, Md. — Mount St. Mary’s University men’s water polo head coach Alyssa Diacono readies for the team’s second season in the pool, lining up 27 contests this Fall.

The schedule is the first with a full slate of games for the team, after a limited inaugural season due to the pandemic. Another challenge is the team’s transition from the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC)-West to the MAWPC-East, made up of Bucknell University, George Washington University, Johns Hopkins University, Fordham University and the United States Naval Academy.

Divided between four non-conference tournaments, an additional non-conference matchup and 12 games in the MAWPC East.

September 4is the kickoff date with the Mount challenging at the Navy Invite hosted by the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. A pair of tournaments in Pennsylvania await the Mountaineers – a doubleheader on September 11 at Mercyhurst University’s Laker Invitational in Erie and the following weekend at Bucknell’s Bison Invitational. Along the way, the team challenges Penn State Behrend of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) on September 10.  The Lions are the alma mater of assistant coach Justin Vink.

For conference play, the Mount challenges George Washington, Johns Hopkins, Fordham, Wagner, Navy and Bucknell in one game on the road and a second at the ARCC Swimming Pool. The season is frontloaded with away and neutral site contests, with the final six games all taking place at home and in MAWPC play. On October 31, the Mountaineers open their home schedule with George Washington.

Splitting the conference schedule is the Mount’s final tournament of the season on October 16-17 at the Mountaineers visit Cambridge, Mass., for the Harvard Invitational. While in New England, the Mountaineers challenge the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Brown University on day one, with Connecticut College and the host Crimson on the day two docket.

Mount St. Mary’s is coming off a 5-4 record in their inaugural year.
