CASSVILLE, W.Va. — Mount St. Mary’s University men’s water polo went 1-1 on the final day of the Salem Invitational hosted by Salem University at The Peak Health Aquatic Center at Mylan Park. The Mountaineers suffered a 15-9 setback versus the host Tigers before returning to the water for a 17-10 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) victory over Mercyhurst University.
Aaron Tarr grabbed back-to-back hat tricks in the pair of games as he led the team in scoring with 10 goals across the weekend. Michael Lemishko followed the goal scoring efforts of Tarr, adding seven goals to the team’s tally for the invite. While absent for the first three games of the invite, Alexandros Bellesis scored four goals against Mercyhurst to put himself within two goals of the all-time goal record for the men’s program.
After a record breaking 25 saves yesterday, Vasilije Marinkovic made 10 saves in the win against Mercyhurst to bring his weekend total to 35 saves. Sherif Hosni continued his form from the first game as he recorded nine saves against Salem to bring his weekend total to 21 saves in two games played.
