BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Emily Van Kerckhove (Fr., Montgomery, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) scored six goals for Mount St. Mary’s University during a weekend trip to Villanova University in claiming laurels as the March 15 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division I Rookie of the Week.
She opened the weekend with a pair of markers in a 15-5 loss to the Virginia Military Academy on Saturday, March 13, at Villanova. On Sunday, March 14, she racked up four goals, three assists, four drawn exclusions and a steal during an 18-8 loss to La Salle University prior to helping the Mountaineers’ cause in a 16-4 loss to the host Wildcats.
The honor marks the first weekly accolade from the league office bestowed on a Mount St. Mary’s women’s water polo athlete. The Mountaineers are currently competing in their inaugural intercollegiate varsity season.
