BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Mount St. Mary’s University’s Jason O’Donnell (Fr., Beaconsfield, Quebec/John Abbott) racked up nine goals, five steals, two assists and a pair of ejections drawn during a 1-1 league weekend at home to earn recognition as the February 8 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Rookie of the Week.

The award is historic as O’Donnell becomes the first Mountaineers’ athlete to earn a weekly honor from the league office in the program’s inaugural season of competition.

Competing at home in the Knott Athletic Recreation Convocation Center (ARCC) in the first home games and MAWPC-West Region contest in the history of Mount St. Mary’s water polo, O’Donnell accounted for five goals in a 22-10 loss to Gannon University and four markers in a 10-7 victory over Mercyhurst University.

The defeat of Mercyhurst marked the first “W” in the Mountaineers’ history.
