PRINCETON, N.J. — Senior Travis Bouscaren (Cambridge, Mass.) and junior Hudson Rawlings (Murrieta, Calif.) each scored two goals as No. 17-ranked Brown University fell to defending National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Champion/No. 1 University of California-Los Angeles, 16-9, in its first game of the day and third contest overall at the Princeton University Invitational.

The Bears acquitted themselves well against the Bruins, matching the nation’s top-ranked team, 6-6, in the second half.

Rawlings added an assist, two steals and three ejections drawn to his pair of goals. Freshman Niko Bhatia (Los Altos, Calif.) tallied a goal and three assists.

Senior Spencer Carroll (Newport Beach, Calif.), junior Will Collier (Darien, Conn.) and sophomore Aidan Reilly (Los Angeles, Calif.) each posted a goal and an assist. Freshman Gabe Kaplan (Santa Monica, Calif.) scored a goal, and fellow rookie Stephen Salle (Chadds Ford, Pa.) contributed two steals and two field blocks.

In the cage, sophomore goalie Riad Hallal (Coronado, Calif.) blocked six shots.

After UCLA netted the game’s first two goals, Reilly converted a five-meter penalty shot to trim the margin to 2-1. The Bruins took a 4-1 edge into the second quarter.

Following a pair of Bruin markers to open the second stanza, Bouscaren scored back-to-back goals to bring Brown within 6-3 with 4:34 to go in the half. UCLA notched the period’s final four goals to take a 10-3 advantage into halftime.

Rawlings initiated the third quarter’s scoring to cut the deficit to 10-4 before the Bruins used a 5-0 run to build a 15-4 edge early in the fourth quarter. The Bears outscored UCLA 5-1 the rest of the way with Rawlings, Collier, Kaplan, Carroll and Bhatia scoring in order.
