No. 13 Boston College-vs.-No. 10 Texas A&M University Scoresheet (2022 Women’s National Collegiate Club Championship – Game #22)

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama — Emily Traynor and Peyton Stubbe both scored four times to share Player of the Week laurels as No. 10-ranked/Texas Division Champion Texs A&M University ground the Eagles of No. 13/New England Division Champion Boston College, 14-4, to reach the Fifth Place game of the 2022 Women’s National Collegiate Club Championship at the Huntsville Aquatics Center.

The Aggies will face No. 15/Northwest Division Champion the University of Oregon at 10:15 a.m. in the Fifth Place game, while Boston College will take on No. 11/Southeast Division Champion the University of Florida at 9:00 a.m. in the Seventh Place contest.

Boston College is guaranteed to equal or improve upon their prior best finish at the National Collegiate Club Championship following prior Eighth (2018, 2019), 12th (2009), 13th (2008) and 15th (2010) place marks.

Texas A&M – which is making the programs’ 10th appearance at the Women’s National Collegiate Club Championship following berths in 2001 (Eighth), 2005 (12th), 2008 (15th), 2010 (13th), 2013 (12th), 2014 (12th), 2015 (15th), 2017 (Ninth) and 2018 (13th) – pulled away early from Boston College as Shaye Smith lanced in a five-meter penalty shot (4:01) and arched in a natural goal (1:03) to sandwich a marker by Stubbe (1:23) to stake the Aggies to a 3-0 margin after seven minutes of competition.

Stubbe struck again with 6:23 on the second quarter clock to make it 5-0 before Allie Tom (Honolulu, Hawaii) converted a six-on-five opportunity at 3:29 to put the Eagles on the board and shrink the Aggies’ lead to 4-1.  However, Kayla Shaunfield broke through for a strike with 2:04 until the halftime horn as Texas A&M carried a 5-1 lead into intermission.

Riley Murray (6:31) put away a natural goal 29 seconds into the third quarter before Traynor pumped in back-to-back man-up scores at 4:46 and 4:27 to expand the lead to 8-1.

Tom inched Boston College back into the game by denting the netting at 3:58 and 3;06, but Traynor (2:01, 42 seconds), Avery Davis (1:14) and Stubbe (eight seconds) capped off a 7-2 scoring outburst by the Aggies’ in the frame to make it 12-3 heading into the fourth quarter.

Stubbe (5:11) made it 13-3 to start the fourth quarter before Tom wrapped up her team’s offense (4:12, penalty shot).  Murray found the back twine a final time at 2:17 to establish the 14-4 finale.

Traynor (four), Stubbe (four), Murray (two) and Smith (two) all posted multi-goal games for Texas A&M with Shaunfield and Davis adding solo tallies in support of goalie Isabella Pesaresi (Newton, Mass.).
