PRINCETON, N.J. — The No. 11-ranekd Harvard University women’s water polo split a pair of conference games by defeating Mercyhurst University, 20-3, in the early game before falling to host/No. 14 Princeton University, 12-8, in the afternoon.
Against Mercyhurst, Dany Zapata led the way with five goals. Emma Gilbert netted four goals, while Serafina Cortez recorded four assists. Ruby Hodge scored one goal and added four assists, Ella Schneider contributed three goals and two assists.
A total of 10 different Crimson players scored in the game as Harvard jumped out to a 12-2 lead in the first half and never looked back.
Sutchie Ofori-Nyako made four saves in the win.
Taking on nemesis Princeton, Harvard led 1-0 after the opening quarter, but the Tigers bounced back in the second quarter to outscore the Crimson 6-3.
Hodge had a standout offensive performance, scoring three goals and adding four assists.
Maya O’Dea contributed a pair of goals, while Heidi Heffelfinger finished with two goals and an assist.
Orli Cooper made eight saves in taking the loss.
