BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Recent Princeton University graduate Roko Pozaric (Zagreb, Croatia/Gimnazija Titusa Brezovackog) is among 14 athletes that will represent Canada at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships on Friday-Sunday, July 11-August 3, in Singapore.

The event begins the march to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, where, with the United States as the host nation, it is expected that two teams from the Americas will have the opportunity to participate.

“I’m incredibly excited to see how this talented group of athletes will represent Water Polo Canada at the upcoming World Aquatic Championships,” said Water Polo Canada’s Senior Men’s National Team Head Coach Pat Oaten. “As this marks the first year of the Olympic quadrennial, the competition offers a valuable opportunity to assess our standing on the international stage and identify the areas we need to focus on as we work toward our ultimate goal: representing Canada at the 2028 Olympic Games.”

A four time Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-America selection and three time Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Most Valuable Player (MVP) for Princeton men’s water polo, Pozaric is the institution’s all-time leading goal scorer with 281 tallies while also ranking second all-time in assists.  Arguably the best player in program history, the economics major from Zagreb, Croatia, made an immediate impact when he arrived at Princeton, being named the NWPC Rookie of the Year and Rookie of the Tournament on his way to his first All-America honor.

In 2023, Pozaric had a career year and received recognition as the NWPC Tournament MVP and was named a Cutino Award finalist, an award presented annually by the Olympic Club to honor the nation’s most outstanding male and female water polo athletes. He has helped transform the program into a national contender, winning the conference title four years in a row, making it to the Final Four in 2023 behind a program record 28 wins, finishing ranked fifth in the country the last two seasons and beating two of the water polo “Big Four”, in the University of California and Stanford University, during his career. Pozaric is a four time First Team All-NWPC performer, 14-time conference player of the week and won 90% of his sprints over his four years with the Tigers.

“These athletes have made tremendous sacrifices to compete at this level, and I’m eager to see how they rise to the occasion on the world stage. On behalf of the entire team, I would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the members of our community whose unwavering support has made it possible for us to participate in the 2025 World Championships.”

Canada will begin competition in the round robin phase of the championship on Friday, July 11, in Group C versus the United States, Brazil and the host nation of Singapore.
