SAN JOSE, Calif. Dany Zapata led the offense with four goals and an assist as No. 11-ranked Harvard University opened the weekend with a 14-6 victory at No. 18 San Jose State University.

Ruby Hodge and Zapata combined for 10 points as the Crimson scored 12 goals in the first three quarters of action to outclass the Spartans.

Zapata scored a pair of goals, including a strike to open the game and a big goal to stretch the lead to two just before the end of the first quarter.

Emma Gilbert also found the net in the first quarter, while Erin Kim connected with Hodge for the third Crimson goal of the opening minutes.

Niki Piovan, Heidi Heffelfinger and Gilbert all scored in the second quarter to stretch the lead to 7-3 with time winding down in the second quarter.

Heffelfinger scored off a great passing play by the Crimson offense, while Gilbert converted on an exclusion opportunity.

Heffelfinger added her second goal of the quarter after picking the corner from the far side of the cage as Harvard controlled the second quarter.

The Crimson led 8-3 at the half.

Zapata added two goals in the third quarter to complete her hat trick and then added her fourth of the game.

Kim added the eighth consecutive goal for Harvard before a third-quarter goal from San Jose stopped the run.

Ten different Crimson players scored in the matchup.

Zapata finished the game with four goals and an assist, while Hodge scored once and added four helpers. Gilbert and Heffelfinger both scored twice.  Sofia Del Villar added a goal and an assist.

Orli Cooper made 12 saves, including five in the fourth quarter.
