CARLISLE, Pa. — Lindsay Cheung (Jr., Irvine, Calif.) of No. 11-ranked/No. 5 seed/New England Division Champion Northeastern University put away four third quarter goals to garner Player of the Game recognition as the Huskies pulled away from No. 18/No. 4 seed/North Atlantic Division Champion Yale University for a 14-4 victory in a quarterfinal match-up at the 2026 Women’s National Collegiate Club Championship.
Competing at the Carlisle YMCA Aquatic Center, the Huskies outscored the Bulldogs 3-2, 3-1, 4-1 and 3-0 in the first-to-fourth quarters, respectively, to punch the program’s ticket to a semifinal showdown at 5:10 p.m. later today with No. 2/No. 9 seed/Sierra Pacific Division Champion the University of California. Cal made its way to the semifinals with an 11-10 overtime defeat of No. 5/No. 1 seed/Pacific Coast Division Champion the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA) earlier in the day.
Yale slips into the consolation side of the 16-team, 30-game championship bracket as the squad will take on UCLA at 4:00 p.m. with a spot in the event’s Fifth Place game on Sunday, April 19, at stake.
Northeastern never trailed in collaring Yale as Adeline Hanson (So., Sonora, Calif.) (5:10, man-up), Anna Schlegel (Sr., Pottstown, Pa.) (4:35) and Avery Emison (Sr., Mill Valley, Calif.) (3:54) dented the twine with a trio of tallies to stake the Huskies to a 3-0 first quarter margin. Addie Juelfs (So., Costa Mesa, Calif.) put the Bulldogs on the scoreboard at 2:28 prior to Katherine Dick (Fr., Florence, Italy) chipping Yale’s deficit down to 3-2 with 1:47 left on the quarter’s clock.
Schlegel (5:45) and Hanson (4:17) widened the gap back to a trio by delivering for Northeastern in the dawning moments of the second quarter. Juelfs (2:07) and Kenza Ashworth (Jr., Palo Alto, Calif.) (1:10) traded goals before halftime for a 6-3 lead at the break.
Northeastern continued to pull away in the third quarter as Cheung (5:24; 4:14; 3:31; 1:21, man-up) and Schlegel (4:51) combined for a 5-0 outburst prior to Marina Zernik (Gr., Thousand Oaks, Calif.) terminating the run with a Yale strike at the 1:02 mark to set the scoreboard at 11-4 in favor of the Huskies with seven minutes of regulation left to play.
Ashworth capped off the victory with back-to-back fourth quarter strikes at 5:40 (man-up) and 4:22 prior to Oriana Chovit (Fr., Chesapeake Beach, Md.) hurling in the final blow at the 3:59 mark to conclude a 14-4 victory.
For Yale, Juelfs (two), Zernik and Dick accounted for the Bulldogs’ scoring with goalkeeper Daisy Gemberling (Fr., Carpinteria, Calif.) stopping three shots in cage.
Cheung (four), Schlegel (three), Ashworth (three), Hanson (two),Emison and Chovit combined for Northeastern’s offensive output. Goalkeepers Aasees Sandhu (So., Santa Clara, Calif.) and Kathleen McClatchie (Jr., Los Altos, Calif.) notched four and seven saves, respectively, in cage for the Huskies.
