FULLERTON, Calif. The No. 11-ranked University of Michigan water polo team defeated host California State University-Fullerton, 15-10, at the Titan Aquatics Center to conclude the Wolverines’ appearance at the Convergence Tournament. Emilia Mladjan recorded four goals for her second hat trick of the weekend, while Emma Gustafsson totaled six points on five goals and one assist to lead the Wolverines.

Michigan (14-8) opened the game with three straight goals in the first quarter. Mladjan scored first for U-M, followed by Gustafsson and Ari Karampetsou. Gustafsson’s goal came on a power play after an exclusion drawn by Karampetsou. Cal State Fullerton (15-9) responded with a score before Lulu Hirschfield added Michigan’s fourth goal of the frame.

Karampetsou and Mladjan each netted their second goals of the contest in the second quarter as the Wolverines maintained their two-score (6-4) advantage heading into halftime.

Issy Jackson scored an unassisted goal 40 seconds into the second half, but the Titans responded and trimmed the deficit to 7-6. Michigan answered down the stretch as Mladjan, Hirschfeld and Gustafsson added key goals to secure the 15-10 victory.

Sophia Bunnell anchored the defense with 11 saves, while Karampetsou contributed three steals and three drawn exclusions.
