SAN DIEGO, Calif. — No. 12-ranked Harvard University doubled up host/No. 16 the University of California-San Diego, 12-6, in the first game of the Crimson’s West Coast road trip.
Following a tight first quarter which saw Harvard claim a 1-0 lead via a scored by Lily Britt, the Crimson drew blood by adding four more goals in the second quarter to take a 5-2 lead at halftime. Niki Piovan and Beatrice Hearey each recorded hat-tricks as Harvard improved to the best start in program history.
Piovan finished the game with five points on three goals and two assists, while Emma Gilbert and Petra Klemm both scored once. Schneider also finished with five points, tallying one goal and four assists.
Britt scored twice and Lucy Berkman recorded a goal and an assist, while Orli Cooper posted 15 saves in the cage.
Sitting at 19-1, Harvard now has its best record through 20 games in program history and has defeated five ranked teams to date.
