PRINCETON, N.J. –- The No. 12-ranked Harvard University men’s water polo team defeated No. 9 University of California-San Diego, 12-11, in the Crimson’s first match at the Princeton Invitational hosted by Princeton University at DeNunzio Pool.
Sophomore Alex Tsotadze notched two goals and four assists in the match, and now leads the Crimson with 10 scores this season. Michael Sonsini also contributed to the Harvard victory with a career-high two goals and two assists. First-years Kaleb Archer and Gabe Putnam had one goal each in the contest.
In the fourth quarter, the Tritons attempted to squeeze out a victory but tallies from Archer and junior Jackson Enright secured the one goal margin at the final buzzer.
Reigning Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Defensive Player of the Week, Noah Hodge, came up big for the Crimson with 10 saves and one assist.
Senior captain Charlie Owens and Enright led the offense as both recorded hat-tricks to help Harvard imprsove to 2-1 all-time against UC-San Diego.
