SAN DIEGO, Calif. No. 13-ranked Princeton University defeated host/No. 22 San Diego State University, 15-8, and Siena College, 21-13, on the first day of the 2023 Aztec Invitational.

Facing the host Aztecs, Princeton dominated the match offensively by holding the lead throughout the entirety of the match that featured nine different scorers.

As a team, Princeton totaled a .682 shooting percentage. Kate Mallery and Annie Robinson both led the Tigers in goals with three each, while Shanna Davidson and Kayla Yelensky both deposited pairs.  Meera Burghardt, Grace Houlahan, Delainey Whelan, Cici Stewart and Genevieve Fraipoint each chipped in solo markers.

The Tigers ran out to a 6-2 lead after eight minutes and led 10-4 at the break. San Diego State closed the gap to four right before the end of the third quarter, but Princeton pitched a shutout in the fourth stanza to earn the decision. 

In the day’s finale versus Siena, the Tigers’ offensive dominance was on full display again as they recorded 20+ goals for the first time this season. 

Princeton came out on fire, outscoring Siena 6-0 in the first quarter. The Tigers did not allow a goal for the first 10:28 of game action and were not threatened. The Tigers had 10 different scorers with Kaila Carroll pacing the offense with five. 

Rachael Carver (four), Mindy Pang (three), Bella Moscoe (two) and Davidson (two) also posted multi-score games, while Laura Larkin, Whelan, Kate Mallery, Annie Robinson and Burghardt each found the back twine once.
