LEWISBURG, Pa. — The No. 14-ranked University of Michigan water polo team defeated No. 20 Brown University, 14-8, on the first day of a Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) weekend at Bucknell University’s Kinney Natatorium.

Sophia Bunnell made 14 saves in net for Michigan, while Ari Karampetsou led the offense with four goals and one assist against the Bears in a clash of nationally-ranked teams.

Michigan built a 5-1 lead in the opening quarter. Karampetsou scored twice in the frame, while Kaia Levenfeld converted a penalty shot and Emma Gustafsson added a goal. With one second remaining in the quarter, Harriet Dickens connected from beyond the five-meter line to extend the advantage.

The Wolverines added four goals in the second quarter to take a 9-3 lead into halftime. Gustafsson and Karampetsou each added to their totals, Brooke Ingram scored her lone goal of the match and Emilia Mladjan found the back of the net in the final 20 seconds of the half.

After a scoreless first five minutes of the third quarter, Issy Jackson broke through on a breakaway. Karampetsou followed with another goal before Brown responded to make it 11-4.

The teams traded goals in the fourth quarter, but Michigan maintained control to secure a six-score victory.
