SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The No. 20-ranked Brown University men’s water polo team took a first-quarter lead versus No. 15 San Jose State University before falling 18-13 during the opening day of the 2026 Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament at Santa Clara University.
Roland Csendes opened up the scoring early for the Bears, recording four goals in the first quarter. Jaxson Tierney and Trey Rogers each scored a goal in the opening eight minutes, as Brown took a 6-4 lead headed into the second quarter. While Ramzi Megalli and Tierney each found the back of the net in the second quarter, it was not enough against San Jose’s six goals as the Spartants pushed ahead prior to halftime.
In an evenly matched third quarter, Máté Tymcyna, Griffin Tunney and Mac Berry responded with solo markers after San Jose found three quick goals to open the frame.
Entering the final quarter trailing by three, Tymcyna scored his second of the game, but it was not enough against a quartet of tallies by San Jose State. William Vranesh scored in the final minutes for the Bears to close out an 18-13 loss.
