BRONX, N.Y. —  Playing their first home match of the season, the No. 16-ranked Fordham University Rams survived a tough test against the No. 20 United States Naval Academy Midshipmen.  The Rams aced that test with flying colors, defeating Navy, 17-10, in Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC)-East Region competition at the Messmore Aquatic Center.

With the win, Fordham improved to 9-3 on the season, 3-0 in the MAWPC.

After jetting out to a 4-1 lead after the first quarter, the Rams took control in the second behind the play of Lucas Nieto Jasny.  He netted three of the Rams’ five goals in the quarter as Fordham increased the lead to 9-4 by halftime.

The third and fourth quarters were more of the same with Fordham outscoring Navy, 4-3, in each frame to pull away with the 17-10 victory.

Nieto Jasny was the top performer for Fordham, tying a season-high with five goals to go with three assists.  Jacopo Parrella chipped in three goals, three assists, and two steals, while Hans Zdolsek, Chistos Loupakis, and George Papanikolaou each had two goals.  Jason Hiremath, Nacho Ariste and Gabriel Melillo rounded out the scoring with one goal apiece.

In net, Bailey O’Mara played the majority of the game, recording eight saves before Thomas Lercari came on in relief in the fourth quarter to make one save.
