LA JOLLA, Calif. — The No. 23-ranked Brown University women’s water polo closed out its California trip with losses to No. 16 the University of California-Davis, 17-13, and host/No. 15 the University of California-San Diego, 21-16, at the Canyonview Aquatic Center.

Alexandra Love led Brown with nine goals, while Ava Schoening posted eight versus the Aggies and Tritons.

In the first game of the day versus UC-Davis, Schoening and Love tied for the team lead with four goals. Sofia Flierl finished the contest with three goals to along with a pair by Megan Newby.

The Bears trailed 4-2 after the first quarter and 7-4 at halftime. UC-Davis extended its lead going into the fourth quarter by one goal before both teams scored six goals each in the final eight minutes.

The Bears closed out their California trip against the host Tritons.

Love led Brown with five goals and Schoening tallied four scores.  Madeleine Poissonnier, Ella Palmer and Samantha Kim scored twice in the loss.

After falling behind 6-3 in the first quarter, the Bears were able to climb back into the contest by exploiting a 3-0 run during the third quarter to make it a one-goal game. A goal by Love made the score 15-14, but UCSD took control courtesy a 4-0 run to put the game out of reach.
