Bronx, N.Y. — Behind hat tricks from Jacopo Parrella and George Papanikolaou along with 12 saves from Thomas Lercari, the No. 17-ranked Fordham University Rams downed the Wagner College Seahawks, 14-9, at the Col. Francis B Messmore Aquatic Center in Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) action.
Fordham improves to 10-6 on the year, 4-0 in the MAWPC, courtesy the victory.
The Rams got out to a quick start with extra-man goals from Balazs Berenyi and Nir Gross for a 2-0 lead. Fordham ended up with a 5-2 lead by the end of the first quarter, following another man-up goal, this time by Lucas Nieto Jasny.
Parrella then got involved in the Fordham offense, scoring twice in the second quarter, while Gross added his second marker to increase the Rams’ lead to 8-2.
Fordham did not relinquish the lead in the second half thanks to Lercari, who turned away repeated Seahawks’ scoring tries to allow the Rams to preserve the win.
Offensively, Parrella and Papanikolaou each scored three goals, while Gross, Christos Loupakis and Berenyi all posted two markers. Nieto Jasny and Michael Rahner closed out the scoring with one goal each.
