Texas State University-vs.-No. 17 Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University Scoresheet (2024 Collegiate Water Polo Association Championship – Game #22-13th/15th Place)

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Anna Goodman, Cate Carlson, Delaney Scheibe, Heather Brouwer and Mollie Morin each scored two or more goals for No. 17-ranked/Atlantic Division Champion the Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University to share Player of the Game honors as the Hokies handled Texas Division Third Place finisher Texas State University, 16-4, in a 13th/15th Place game at the 2024 Women’s National Collegiate Club Championship hosted by Texas A&M University.

Virginia Tech, which previously finished in a tie for 15th at the 2018 Women’s National Collegiate Club Championship hosted at Mt Hood Community College in Gresham, Ore., finish the tournament in a tie for 13th with the victor of another 13th/15th Place game pitting No. 18/North Atlantic Division Champion Yale University and No. 20/New York Division Champion Cornell University.  Due to limited time and facility availability, the 13th and 15th positions in the final 16-team championship standings are not played out with the two teams impacted at each position considered tied in the final National Collegiate Club Championship standings.

The Hokies overwhelmed the National Collegiate Club Championship newcomers from San Marcos, Texas, as Virginia Tech outscored Texas State 1-0, 6-1 and 7-1 in the first, second and third quarters prior to the squads exchanging pairs of tallies over the span of the final fourth quarter for the 16-4 final score.

Goodman (four), Carlson (two), Scheibe (two), Brouwer (two) and Morin (two) inflicted the majority of the damage in the contest as the quintet combined for 12 goals.  Liliana Gamiz, Cori Selig, Maddi Griffith and Camille Marracini each deposited solo markers, while goalkeeper Livy Meeting turned aside seven shots.

On the other end of the tank, Dalia Kohn (Fr., Richmond, Texas) keyed the Bobcats’ offense with three goals.  Rachel Cook (Fr., Cypress, Texas) chipped in another strike and Livy Meeting racked up seven saves as Texas State finishes tied with the loser of the Cornell/Yale game for 15th place.
