LEWISBURG, Pa. — The Bucknell University women’s water polo team opened Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) league play with a 9-6 loss to No. 18-ranked Hartwick College at Kinney Natatorium. Marta Considine scored a team-high three goals in the contest.
Tegan Stanbach posted two goals for the Bison, while Emily Konishi finished with one goal and two assists.
Bucknell finished with 11 steals in the match, including four from Colleen Barron. Considine and Shyla Lintz drew three ejections each in the loss.
The Bison scored three straight goals to open the match and held a 5-4 advantage at halftime. Bucknell converted on all three of its six-on-five opportunities in the opening quarter.
Hartwick, who entered Saturday with wins over three nationally-ranked opponents, outscored the Bison 4-1 in the second half. Tied 6-6 heading into the final period, the Hawks scored three consecutive times to secure the win in the conference opener for both teams.
