LA JOLLA, Calif. The No. 18-ranked University of Michigan water polo team dropped its opening contest at the Triton Invitational by falling 16-10 to No. 6 Arizona State University at the University of California-San Diego’s Triton Pool.

Ari Karampetsou led the Wolverines’ offense by scoring five goals and contributing an assist. Other goal scorers for the Wolverines included Issy Jackson, who notched two tallies on the scoresheet, along with Kaia Levenfeld, Brooke Ingram and Riley Chapple.  Freshman Ryland Smith was among the offensive contributors, dishing out an assist of her own in her debut in the Maize & Blue.

Jackson also shone for the Wolverines on defense, collecting three steals and three drawn exclusions against the Sun Devils. Emilia Mladjan contributed two of each.
