ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The No. 19-ranked George Washington University water polo team defeated Long Island University, 17-15, and Salem University, 18-12, to go along with a 15-6 loss to No. 10 Princeton University at the 2025 Navy Open hosted by the United States Naval Academy.  The Revolutionaries move to 4-8 on the season.

On Friday, September 12, GW jumped out to an early lead against Long Island. The Sharks remained close and knotted the game halfway through the third quarter, but the Revolutionaries used a 6-1 run to start the fourth quarter in puling away to secure the program’s first win since opening weekend.

Five players scored multiple goals as Anthony Ferneini (three), Andrea Forno (three), Adonis Vlassis (two), Ben McDade (two) and Joseph McCreary (two) posted two or more tallies.

George Washington closed out its trip to Annapolis with a 1-1 mark on Saturday, September 13, against the Tigers of Salem and Princeton.

Facing Salem, a 7-2 run out of the gate gave the Revolutionaries a comfortable early lead on the way to an 18-12 victory. The closest the Tigers got to GW was within four goals in the fourth quarter, but GW stayed the course on its way to a six-score win. Vlassis and Gabriele Molfino led the charge with four goals apiece.

Facing the defending Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) champions from Princeton, GW was held scoreless in the first half to trail 9-0 at halftime.  Although the Revolutionaries picked up the pace offensively in the second half to play even with the Tigers, the gap was too large to overcome for George Washington in a nine-goal defeat.
