PRINCETON, N.J. — The Long Island University men’s water polo team wrapped up the Princeton Invitational at Princeton University’s DeNunzio Pool by falling to No. 19-ranked Santa Clara University, 17-6.
“Playing another nationally ranked team is a testament to our progress throughout this part of the season,” said head coach Gabby Juarez. “Based off our last game, we carried momentum into the first quarter, but couldn’t put a complete game together.”
Riyad Shehadeh scored his team-leading 20th goal of the season Karl Lovett netted his 16th goal of the year.
Sophomore Logan Morgan scored his first goal of the season and added on a second in the fourth quarter, while Josep Jodra Muñoz scored two which brings his season tally to 13.
Ethan Zirh assisted on two scores and made 11 saves which brings his season total to 91.
“I think that defensively we’re starting to click a little bit more,” Juarez said, “Which is ultimately our goal of just getting better every game and gaining experience against ranked opponents.”
