NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Mallory Phillips (So., Mercer Island, Wash.) tallied three goals to collect Player of the Game recognition and lead nine Aggies’ scorers as defending National Champion/Sierra Pacific Division Champion/No. 2-ranked the University of California-Davis collected a 14-5 victory over New England Division Champion/No. 19 Boston College in the quarterfinals of the 2019 Women’s National Collegiate Club Championship hosted by the University of Notre Dame at the Rolfs Aquatic Center.
- Via the victory, UC-Davis returns to the Women’s National Collegiate Club Championship semifinals as the Aggies will face the winner of a quarterfinal pitting Midwest Division Champion/No. 11 Lindenwood University-vs.-Southwest Division Champion/No. 5 San Diego State University. Game time for the semifinal is 5:10 p.m. this evening back at the Rolfs Aquatic Center.
- The 2012, 2013, 2017 and 2018 National Champions, the Aggies are making the program’s 10th appearance in 11 years at the National Collegiate Club Championship. Historically, the team is 5-3 in semifinal games as the squad placed first (2012, 2013, 2017, 2018), second (2011), third (2008, 2014, 2016) and fifth (2009) in the squad’s previous trips to the National Collegiate Club Championship.
- UC-Davis never trailed against Boston College as the defending titlist played like a champion in its quarterfinal at Notre Dame by racing out to 3-0 and 6-1 leads in the first quarter prior to inflating the margin to 8-2 by halftime. Leading 11-3 at the conclusion of the third quarter, the Aggies padded the final score to 14-5 to punch its ticket back to the semifinals.
- In the history of the women’s National Collegiate Club Championship only one team has won three-or-more consecutive National Championships as California Polytechnic State University (2003, 2004, 2005; 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011) reeled off strings of three and four crowns.
- For UC-Davis, Phillips led the way with a hat-trick, while the trio of Olivia Tobin (Fr., San Mateo, Calif.), Sydney Preston (Jr., Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Carmen Steinmeier (Jr., Sunnyvale, Calif.) tickled the twine with pairs of markers. Nicky Daley (So., Granite Bay, Calif.), Sidney Hollinger (So., El Cajon, Calif.), Rose Ballantine (Sr., Napa, Calif.), Dallyce Marglon (Sr., Tracy, Calif.) and Carolyn Rieber (Sr., Stockton, Calif.) accounted for the Aggies’ five other goals as the quintet each posted solo scores.
- On the other end of the tank, Heather Clark (Sr., The Woodlands, Texas) equaled Phillips by posting a hat-trick for the Eagles with Annie Ward (So., San Rafael, Calif.) flicking in her team’s remaining pair of points.
- In cage for UC-Davis, Sasha Levin-Guracar (Sr., Redwood City, Calif.) earned the start and the win with two saves and two goals allowed in the first half. Cassidy Crouch (Jr., Clovis, Calif.) closed out the contest with six saves – including sets of three in the third and fourth quarters – and three goals allowed in the final 14 minutes of competition during the game.
- Mary Holt (Jr., Pasadena, Calif.) took the loss for Boston College with three saves.
- Due to the defeat, Boston College can finish either Fifth, Sixth, Seventh or Eighth in the final 16-team standings as the Eagles will battle the loser of the San Diego State-Lindenwood game at 4:00 p.m. today. A win against the Aggies/Lions puts Boston College into the Fifth Place game at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday, March 5, while a loss sticks the Eagles in the Seventh Place contest at 9:00 a.m.
- The potential outcomes all have positive outlooks for Boston College as the team at worst will tie its all-time best finish of Eighth Place at the Women’s National Collegiate Club Championship.
