SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The No. 20-ranked Brown University women’s water polo team split two games at the Bronco Invitational hosted by Santa Clara University. The Bears began the day with an 8-4 loss to No. 18 San Jose State University before closing out the night with an 18-7 defeat of the host Broncos.

The Bears dropped the first game of the day to San Jose State as Aubrie Anderson, Alexandra Love, Megan Newby and Samantha Kim all scored for the Bears.

Brown held a 2-1 lead after the first eight minutes and was up 3-2 entering halftime.  However, the Spartans took over the game with a 4-1 run in the third quarter by notching a 2-0 advantage in the fourth quarter to double-up the Bears.

The visitors cruised in the second game of the day to take down Santa Clara by an 18-7 count.

Sofia Holman led all scorers for the Bears with four goals. Madeleine Poissonnier, Hana Homma, Anderson and Ella Palmer all netted two goals, while six other Bears finished with solo markers.

Brown began the game with a 5-3 lead after the first quarter and pushed the lead to 8-4 by the halftime break.

Brown took control of the game with a 5-0 third quarter and extended its lead with a 5-3 advantage in the last eight minutes.
