PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Host/No. 20-ranked Brown University improved to 12-2 on the season as the Bears secured a 17-12 win over Division III No. 3 Johns Hopkins University before defeating Wheaton College (Mass.), 17-8, on the second day of the Bruno Classic.
In a battle of nationally-ranked teams, the Bears and the Blue Jays played an evenly matched first half as Máté Tymcyna started off the scoring just 27 seconds into the quarter. Griffin Tunney, Jaxson Tierney and Roland Csendes scored one each as Brown led 4-3 entering the second quarter. Johns Hopkins took the lead early in the second, but a goal from Colton Bell and two from Csendes helped the Bears regain their lead.
Csendes and Tymcyna each recorded a third-quarter hat trick, while Tunney, Tierney and Bell all scored their second of the day in the final half. Robert Norell and Ramzi Megalli contributed to the Bear’s lead in the fourth quarter, securing the 17-12 win over the Blue Jays.
As they returned to the pool in the afternoon, the Bears took an early lead over the Lyons and held onto it for the remainder of the game. Willem Anton and Norell scored two each in the first quarter, while Csendes continued his scoring streak with his fourth of the day. Oliver Chu found the back of the net to close out the quarter and send the Bears into the second leading 6-0. Jeremy Tachiki and Andrew Gao contributed to Brown’s offense, and Chu scored two more to close out the half, earning his first collegiate hat trick. Dimitrios Kratimenos netted his fourth goal of the season to extend the lead 11-2.
Kratimenos and Ethan Kittredge scored the lone goals in the third quarter before sealing the win with five more in the final quarter. Santiago Soza and Will Corr each scored, their firsts of their career, and Anton scored the final point of the game as Brown finished on top with a 17-8 win.
Kratimenos stood tall in net for the Bears while also contributing offensively. Dominik Balla and Tymcyna led Brown with six goals each through four games. Brown out scored its opponents 65-40 while posting a 4-0 record at the Bruno Invite.
